Beijing Opens First Shopping Centre with Taiwan Funds

The Pacific Department Store opened its door for the first time on Thursday in eastern Beijing. The store is the first Taiwan-holding retailer on the mainland and is jointly constructed by Taiwan, Hong Kong and mainland investors.

The store is a six-storey building with 47,000 square metres of floor space, based in the western part of Changhong Overpass in Chaoyang District. Now the store is on a trial-run, and will be formally open to the public on November 1. Another such store is expected to be opened in Xidan, one of the commercial centres in the capital city.
