DPRK Insists on Holding Inter-Korean Meeting on Mount Kumgang
The Democratic People's Republic of Korea (DPRK) on Tuesday insisted that Mount Kumgang in the DPRK be made the venue for the sixth Inter-Korean Ministerial Meeting scheduled for October 28-31.
Kim Ryong Song, head of the DPRK delegation to the inter-Korean ministerial meeting, sent a message to the chief representative of the South Korean delegation noting that the south side has not shown affirmative response to the north side's draft amendment to the schedule but persisted in an unreasonable assertion concerning the venue of the talks.
"The north side will always keep Mount Kumgang area open for an early holding of the sixth ministerial talks and wait for the south side to come out to the talks in response to the reasonable proposal of the north side," said the message.
The south side has been opposed to fixing Mount Kumgang as the venue of the meeting while proposing that the meeting be held in Pyongyang. Previously, the South and the North had held several talks and contacts on Mount Kumgang.
The message said the north side had submitted the proposal for holding the talks in the Mount Kumgang area at the fifth ministerial meeting in Seoul and the proposal was considered reasonable and acceptable.
It added that the south has no reason to oppose the proposal by the north since the DPRK was not against South Korea's proposal of holding the third ministerial meeting in Cheju-do last year.
