Pakistan, Saudi Arabia Discuss Afghan Situation

Pakistani President Pervez Musharraf said on Thursday that Saudi Arab and Pakistan have total unanimity of views on how to approach the problems in Afghanistan and its consequences.

Talking to reporters here after holding talks with visiting Saudi Arabian Foreign Minister Prince Saud al Faisal, Musharraf said, "We did discuss the situation in Afghanistan in its totality. "

"There is total unanimity of views on how to approach the problems in Afghanistan and its consequences," Musharraf said.

He said Pakistan and Saudi Arab maintain "very close contacts on all important issues around the world."

Musharraf said Pakistan is grateful for the support Saudi Arab has provided to Pakistan in the past.

"We look forward to in all areas whether political or economic, a total collaboration between the two countries as has existed in the past," said the president.

Saudi Foreign Minister Prince Saud Al-Faisal said on the occasion that Saudi Arab will stand with Pakistan whenever the national interests of either country are challenged.

He said that he had brought a message of friendship and solidarity for the people of Pakistan from the King and the Crown Prince of Saudi Arabia.

He said Pakistan is a country that has been "bastion" for the Muslim Ummah (world) and "solidarity with Pakistan is the duty of every Muslim particularly at this difficult time."

The Saudi foreign minister said that Pakistan is following the policies that have been decided in the meeting of the Organization of Islamic Conference held in Doha, Katar, earlier this month.
