HLHL Foundation Awards Chinese Scientists
The Ho Leung Ho Lee (HLHL) Foundation Thursday granted its Science and Technology Progress Award to 56 Chinese scientists, who each received 200,000 Hong Kong dollars for their achievements.
Cheng Siwei, vice-chairman of the Standing Committee of the National People's Congress (NPC), and Zhu Guangya, vice-chairman of the National Committee of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference, attended the awards giving ceremony.
Zhu Lilan, vice-chairwoman of the NPC Education, Science, Culture and the Public Health Committee, and also president of the Board of Trustees of the foundation, explained how the winners were selected. Chen Jia'er, chairman of the National Natural Science Foundation of China, made a speech on behalf of all the winners.
Cheng Siwei said that technological innovation has become a powerful impetus to the world economy and social development. To cultivate high-quality personnel and create healthy social environment for them is an important strategy.
The Ho Leung Ho Lee Foundation, set up in Hong Kong in 1994, awards Chinese scientists annually in two categories, the Science and Technology Achievement Award and the Science and Technology Progress Award.
A total of 426 Chinese scientists have received the honors.
