UNIDO, Hunan to Jointly Build New Medicine Center

Liuyang Bio-Medicine Park in Hunan Province and the United Nations Industrial Development Organization (UNIDO) will join hands in building an international new medicine research center in the central China province.

Under an agreement signed between the two sides Tuesday, this will be the only Chinese medicine industrial park the UNIDO gets involved in China.

This is also the first cooperation agreement between China's pharmaceutical industry and a United Nations organization.

Hunan is one of China's five leading medicine developers. It is ranked second the country in terms of natural medicinal reserves.

Liuyang Bio-Medicine Park, launched in October 1998, is now home to 31 medicine-related businesses and establishments, including two state-level medical labs.

The cooperation between Liuyang and the UNIDO is expected to facilitate foreign medicine companies to enter China and Chinese medicine companies to go to the world market.
