3rd Generation Mobile Communication Technology Unveiled in Beijing

The 3rd generation mobile communication technology, featured by wireless, big capacity, high- speed transmission and other characters, is the hottest topic of conversation in the telecom industry. Network based on this technology was unveiled in Beijing October 23 and immediately attracted the widest attention.

At the 2001 China International Communication Equipment Technology Exhibition, many manufacturers displayed their related technologies. NTT DoCoMo from Japan showed its famous i-mode mobile phone, which can order information, download music, play games with others, take video, and achieve visual communication. And Nokia showed its WCDMA products and concerned settlement plans developed on the basis of the 3rd generation mobile communication technology. President of Nokia (China) Investment Co. Ltd. said that the personal wireless terminal would be greatly used for communication by voice, text, photo, and multimedia; mobile phone, as a core tool for the management of personal life, will make it possible for achieving all-sided personality communication.

Meanwhile, the manufacturers also showed great interest in China's development of 3rd generation mobile communication market. According to the president of Ericsson (China) Co. Ltd., China is a developing telecommunication market and will soon become the biggest one in the world. China's growth will bring along the development of the world telecommunication industry. And Ericsson will introduce the most sophisticated technologies and products into China and develop advanced products conforming to China's conditions as well.

The exhibition is co-sponsored by the Ministry of Information Industry and China Council for the Promotion of International Trade and jointly undertaken by China National Postal and Telecommunications Appliances Corporation and China International Exhibition Corporation. Present at the exhibition were some 400 operators and manufacturers from 19 countries and regions.
