Beijing, HK to Cooperate in Financing and Services
Beijing and the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region will mainly focus on their cooperation in the sectors of financing and services in the coming years, a senior HK official revealed here Tuesday.

Michael Sze Cho-Cheung, president of the Hong Kong Trade Development Council (HKTDC), made the remark at the 5th Beijing- Hong Kong Economic Cooperation Symposium which opened here Tuesday.

Sze Cho-Cheung expressed his willingness to assist Beijing's construction drive for the 2008 Olympic Games by providing funding and professionals in the fields of construction, engineering, environmental protection, legal affairs, insurance and accounting.

HKTDC has established a working team to release Beijing's construction plan in the coming years to HK's business circle. HK businessmen are also able to check the Internet databank for more information on infrastructure projects in Beijing and China, he added.

Cho-Cheung also welcomed Beijing-based enterprises to participate in HK's trade exhibitions such as those featuring toys, fashion, watches and clocks, believing that the economic cooperation must be mutually beneficial.

Beijing and HK are working on a system to unify economic cooperation processes for a sustainable and closer relationship, according to Zhang Mao, vice mayor of Beijing.

Beijing has decided to bring in more technologies, modern management techniques, and professionals instead of just accepting funding for projects. The Chinese capital will also improve its business environment to offer a better development platform for overseas investors, Zhang stressed.
