Great Potential for China's Exports to RussiaExporters at the China Export Commodities Fair are targeting Russia as a promising market, according to Xinhua's interviews of a number of large Chinese exporters.Fu Haiyan, exports manager of the China Tianjin Globe Smart Card Co., said exploring the Russian market will be the primary export strategy of the company after two-years of contact with the Russian side. As the largest smart card producer in Asia, the company thinks that the time is ripe to enter the Russian market. It will make specific moves to realize the goal within this year. A steadily developing bilateral relationship between China and Russia, the recovery of Russia's economy, the stable exchange rate of the Russian currency, and increasing purchasing power have turned the neighboring country into a new favorite of Chinese exporters. China's largest electrical appliance exporter, the TCL Group, has made its brand popular in Russia, where it has set up several sales and distribution outlets. Xie Weijun, deputy-manager of the overseas holding subsidiary of TCL, told Xinhua that the company's exports of TV sets to Russia have maintained good growth momentum for years, and will amount to 70,000-80,000 sets next year. Ordos Cashmere, a popular Chinese brand, has been well embraced by Russia's high-end market. Liu Xueming, the company's representative at the export fair, said Ordos is committed to expanding its export channels to Russia, which has soaring market demand for the related products. Besides these industry leaders, a number of small and medium- sized Chinese firms have been or are scrambling to join the queue to enter the Russian market with the encouragement from the local governments, especially of the provinces and regions neighboring Russia. Li Yanlin, a trade official of northeast China's Heilongjiang Province, said exports to Russia account for nearly half of the province's total. In part of the efforts to maintain the growth trend, the provincial government plans to pool 2.3 billion yuan to build a sleek exhibition center to house its annual trade fair, which is an important occasion for Russian buyers to meet Chinese exporters face-to-face. Official statistics show that China's exports to Russia in the first seven months of the year reached 1.27 billion U.S. dollars, up 18.2 percent from the same period of last year. Enditem
