1st Shunde International Home Appliance Fair Opens

The first Shunde International Home Appliance Fair opened Tuesday in Shunde, in south China's Guangdong Province.

Shunde claims it is the world's largest producer of electric fans, electric appliances and microwave ovens.

The fair aims to set up a global trading platform for home appliance makers, dealers and manufacturers of appliance parts, fair sources said.

In addition to well-known domestic home appliance producers, other companies attending include those from the World Top 500 like Toshiba, Panasonic, Hitachi and Wal Mart.

Fourteen seminars are on the fair agenda, featuring lectures from economics experts and entrepreneurs from home and abroad.

Shunde is China's leading home appliance producing base, with 3, 000 factories. The city's home appliance production value reached 50 billion yuan (6 billion U.S. dollars) last year, accounting for 15 percent of the country's total.
