Beijing to Build International Media Avenue

The Chinese capital is planning to build an international media avenue in its Xuanwu District, according to official sources.

The avenue area is designed to become a comprehensive community of industries involved in journalism, publishing, film and television, Internet, and conventions and exhibitions.

An area of 116 hectares will be developed for the project, which is to cost a total of 28 billion yuan (3.4 billion US dollars), sources said.

A number of well-known media organizations are currently located in the vicinity, including Xinhua News Agency, Guangming Daily and Economic Daily.

Works planned or already under construction in the area include an international press center, a cultural square and the Beijing International Convention and Exhibition Center.
