China, Australia Hold Fifth Defense, Strategic Talks

Xiong Guangkai, deputy chief of general staff of the People's Liberation Army of China, and Desmond Mueller, vice chief of Australian Defense Force, held the fifth defense and strategic talks here Tuesday.

The two sides exchanged views on international situation, regional security and bilateral relations, and found common ground in many fields.

Mueller arrived in Beijing on Sunday at the invitation of the Chinese Defense Ministry.

China and Australia began their first defense and strategic talks in 1997.
