Young Scientists Urged to be Backbone of Scientific Progress

Chinese Vice-Premier Li Lanqing urged young scientists to be the backbone of China's scientific research and contribute their wisdom to China's modernization drive.

The next five to 10 years will be an important period for China 's economic and social development and a vital period for scientific progress, Li said Monday at an academic conference for young people hosted by the China Association for Science and Technology.

The coming years will give scientists plenty of opportunity to display their ability, Li said.

Li, who is also a standing committee member of the Political Bureau of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of China (CPC), urged young scientists to carry forward the tradition of past generations, work in a down-to-earth way, be team players and have good moral character.
