U.S. Denies Bombs Hit Afghan Hospital

The U.S. Defense Department said Monday it could not confirm Taliban charges that American warplanes had bombed a hospital in Afghanistan and killed over 100 people there.

"I have no information that would confirm that, and I would put very low credibility in any Taliban report," said Pentagon spokesman Bryan Whitman.

Meanwhile, Victoria Clarke, a Pentagon official, denied Taliban charges that chemical and biological weapons were being used by U. S. troops in Afghanistan and that the Taliban might have shot down an American helicopter.

Taliban Ambassador to Pakistan Abudul Salam Zaeef said in Islamabad that more than 100 people had been killed when U.S. warplanes bombed a hospital in the western city of Herat.
