Chinese Premier Meets Overseas Chinese Experts

Chinese Premier Meets Overseas Chinese Experts
Chinese Premier Zhu Rongji today on overseas Chinese to share intelligence with China, October 22.

Zhu expressed his encouragement when meeting with overseas Chinese experts who were attending a Sino-American technology and engineering conference at the Great Hall of the People, in China.

He said with the advancement of science and technology, the quantity and quality of talent available are becoming an important factor when evaluating a country's development. Talents and intelligence will play a greater role in the future development of society.

Compared with developed countries, China has been left behind in terms of professionals engaged in science and technology although its reforms and opening up drive has enhanced its strength over the past two decades, he said.

The Premier said what China falls short in the most is not capital but new and high technology and advanced management experience, and personnel with high-tech and modern management skills in particular.

He extended a "sincere welcome" to talented people, including overseas Chinese, from all over the world, saying that they can serve the country's development in various forms.

The Sino-American Technology and Engineering Conference has been held once every two years since 1993. This year's conference, the fifth one, was held jointly by the State Economic and Trade Commission and the State Administration of Foreign Experts Affairs. It was opened on October 15 and is scheduled to close on October 23.

Participants have inspected 25 enterprises and have exchange views over the future of some industries and technological innovation.
