Typhoons Fail to Seriously Damage Guangdong

South China's Guangdong Province has escaped major damages from four typhoons.

There have been no major casualties from typhoons Chebi, Civet, Durian and Utor, which hit Guangdong this summer, causing total economic losses of more than 10 billion yuan.

Zhou Rifang, director of the provincial water conservancy department, attributed the success to water-control projects built in recent years at a conference held Monday in this capital of Guangdong.

By September this year, Guangdong had invested 6.2 billion yuan in reinforcing river embankments and reservoirs, he said.
