China Sets up its First Motorcycle Testing FieldA 66.7-hectare motorcycle testing field, the first of its kind in China, was put into operation in Tianjin, the municipality near the Chinese capital city Beijing on October 21.China produces more motorcycles than any other country, but is not a strong player in the international market due to its relatively poor development capability. The testing site will aid research and develop of motorcycles, said Zhang Xiaoyu, director of the China Automobile Engineering Association. The field will be an important technological base responsible for testing of new models, quality testing of imported or exported motorcycles, standards inspection, motorcycle drivers' training and motorcycle races. China's motorcycle production has ranked first in the world since 1993 and made up half of the world's total export in 1998. Last year the country exported about 2 million motorcycles, according to sources. In foreign countries like Italy and Japan, such test fields were set up in 1960s and 1970s for technological improvement.
