Chinese President Meets PNG PM

Chinese President Meets PNG PM
Prime Minister of Papua New Guinea Mekere Morauta congratulated China on its success in hosting the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) Economic Leaders Meeting during his meeting with Chinese President Jiang Zemin in Shanghai on October 21.

Morauta said Papua New Guinea has adhered to a "one China" policy since it established diplomatic relations with China 25 years ago, and expressed the hope to further develop bilateral ties, particularly exchanges and cooperation in economic and trade sectors.

Jiang echoed Morauta's assessment of the relationship between China and Papua New Guinea, saying the two countries have achieved remarkable results in economic cooperation and bilateral trade, along with frequent exchanges of visits between senior officials of the two sides and increased mutual understanding.

As APEC members, China and Papua New Guinea have had good cooperation in international and regional affairs, and should make joint efforts to further enhance friendly and cooperative ties in the new century, Jiang said.
