U.S. Warplanes Bombard Taliban Front-line Positions

U.S. warplanes heavily bombarded on Sunday on the Taliban front-line positions in the northern Afghan province of Samangan for the second consecutive day, the Pakistan-based Afghan Islamic Press (AIP) reported.

The Taliban confirmed the bombing of their forces on Dara Souf front-line but gave no details, according to the AIP report.

In related developments, the U.S. warplanes Sunday also launched fresh air strikes against Afghan cities of Kabul, Kandahar and Jalalabad for the 15th straight day, AIP added.

Dara Souf is of strategic importance as its fall would open the way for the forces of the anti-Taliban Northern Alliance present in the area to advance on the key city of Mazar-e-Sharif, according to AIP.
