Taliban Foil Opposition Offensive on Front Line: Spokesman

Taliban spokesman Amir Khan Muttaqi claimed that they repelled the opposition forces on Sunday during a fresh offensive launched by the Northern Alliance after the U.S. air attacks on the front line in Samangan and Balkh province, according to the Afghan Islamic Press (AIP).

He said the opposition forces launched a major offensive on the front-line positions in Samangan and Balkh province, which were attacked by the U.S. warplanes early Sunday morning.

The spokesman gave no information on casualties and damages during the fighting.

According to AIP, the U.S.-led coalition launched severe attacks on the major Afghan cities Saturday night and Sunday morning, killing some 30 innocent civilians.
