Chinese Students to Participate in Antarctic Expedition

Three students from Chinese University of Science and Technology have been approved to be members of 18th Chinese Antarctic expedition team.

They will leave China in mid November on the expedition ship " Xuelong" ("Snow Dragon"), which will sail across the Pacific and Indian Oceans.

The three students, Ph.D. candidates Zhu Renbin and Liu Xiaodong and M.A. candidate Wang Junjian, will work at China's Antarctic research stations, Zhongshan and Changcheng and on the " Xuelong" for six months. Main tasks will include study of the environment in which marine birds and mammals live, monitoring greenhouse gases at the polar region and other issues.

The three students also participated in both the 15th and the 16th Antarctic expeditions.
