Kabul Bombed, U.S. Ground Operation Under Way

Powerful explosions rocked Kabul in early morning Saturday, news reaching said.

Witnesses were quoted as saying the aircraft roared on the city around 2200 GMT following a daytime strike during the Muslim prayer day on Friday when several heavy blasts were reported.

"The planes dropped six bombs one after the other," an eyewitness in northern part of the city said.

"The bombs appeared very powerful as the explosions were very loud."

U.S.-led forces began airstrikes on Afghanistan on October 7 over the ruling Taliban's refusal to turn over Osama bin Laden, the prime suspect in the September 11 terror attacks in the United States.

The United States first confirmed Friday that small numbers of U.S. special forces troops were now already operating on the ground inside Afghanistan. "Large scale ground operation is under way", U.S. military said.
