Int'l Meeting on Fruits, Vegetables Held in East China

The Third International Fruit and Vegetable Processing Meeting opened Friday in Yantai, a major port city in east China's Shandong Province.

Hi-tech seminars, exhibitions and business talks on fruit and vegetable processing will be held during the meeting, local officials said, adding that this event is dedicated to promoting international technological transfer and improving the quality of fruits and vegetables.

Delegates from China and many foreign countries such as the United States, Canada, and Germany are attending the meeting, and will discuss technologies for the storage of fruits and vegetables, packaging, breeding of seeds and industrialization.

The meeting is being sponsored mainly by the United Nations Economic and Social Commission for Asia and the Pacific (UNESCAP), several ministries of China, and the Shandong provincial government.
