Famous Chinese Musician Dies

Li Delun, a famous symphony director, died from an illness here Friday, aged 84.

Li was born in 1917 in Beijing, and served as a director of the Central Orchestra Troupe in Yan'an, a revolutionary base of the Communist Party of China (CPC) in Shaanxi Province in 1946.

After the founding of New China in 1949, Li took the position as director of the Central Opera Theater and the Central Symphony Troupe. He also directed a series of major symphonic performances by prestigious musicians with a dozen Chinese and overseas orchestras.

Li was also winner of a variety of domestic and international music awards.
