Yunnan Baiyao Still Listed Primarily Protected Chinese Traditional Medicine
Yunnan Baiyao Group Co. Ltd. announced October 18 that it is the only legal drug-maker of Yunnan Baiyao, for 20 years from 1995 to 2015, and "Yunnan Baiyao Powder" and "Yunnan Baiyao Capsule" are still listed as primarily protected Chinese traditional medicine.
Before 1995, four enterprises including Yunnan Baiyao Group Co. Ltd., the original Yunnan Dali Pharmaceutical Factory, Yunnan Wenshan Pharmaceutical Factory, and Yunnan Lijiang Pharmaceutical Factory, were authorized for making Yunnan Baiyao. For achieving a collective development, Yunnan Baiyao Group Co. Ltd. controlled and managed the other three factories by holding their shares on October 1996. Thus the whole group began to use the authorization number and Certification for Protected Chinese Traditional Medicine granted by the Ministry of Health in 1995.
In 1997, the Public Health Bureau of Yunnan Province suspended the production authorization of Dali, Wenshan, and Lijiang factories and the Yunnan Baiyao Group Co. Ltd. made a written report to the bureau concerned for withdrawing authorization of the three factories on August 14, 2000. In addition, the three subsidiaries have not paid any charges for protected Chinese traditional medicine since 1999 and their protected rights have been terminated in advance in a notice issued on the 27th of September 2001. According to Yunnan Baiyao Group Co. Ltd., this arrangement will benefit centralization management of production and sales, ensure the quality, check and crack down the action of making fake medicines, and protect consumers' legal rights and interests as well.
