Direct Taiwan Investment in China's Mainland Shoots Up

Statistics from Taiwan "Ministry of Economic Affairs" show that in the first nine months of this year, direct Taiwan investment in China's mainland totaled US$2.122bn, a near 19 percent increase over last year.

According to statistics, in the same period, foreign investment in Taiwan was US$4.065bn, a decrease of 28.3 percent from the previous year, and Taiwan investment in the United States continued to slide for six consecutive months. In the meantime, direct Taiwan investment in the Chinese mainland, especially in September, saw a dramatic increase of 177 percent over the same period last year.

An official from Taiwan "Ministry of Economic Affairs" admitted that with the rapid economic growth in the mainland, the flow of capital to the mainland is an "unavoidable trend".
