Siemens Eyes Chinese Market

Siemens will invest some 1.5 billion US dollars in Asian countries within three years to further develop the market and enhance production, according to recent sources with the company.

The German telecommunication giant said that most of the investment will be used in China to implement the China-oriented strategy launched by the company early this year.

So far Siemens has launched in China three models of mobile phones with personalized functions such as date books. The new products have been favorable received by Chinese users.

Shen Ganying, senior vice-president of Siemens Shanghai Mobile Telecommunication Co. Ltd, said the mobile phone is outgrowing its traditional role of communicating and sending written messages.

"Multifunctional models are becoming increasingly popular among mobile phone users," Shen said.

In recent years, Siemens has been gaining ground in the flourishing Chinese market and become the third largest mobile manufacturer worldwide, closely following Nokia and Motorola.
