4 Killed, 8 Injured in Kandahar During Fresh U.S. Daylight Raids

Four people were killed and 8 others injured during a fresh wave of daylight U.S. air attacks on the Taliban stronghold Kandahar Wednesday morning, according to the Afghan Islamic Press (AIP).

The bombardment caused fire in the eastern part of the city and smoke was seen rising from the spot.

According to AIP, frightened civilians were fleeing the city in fear of fresh attacks.

It said that the opposition Northern Alliance launched offensive late Tuesday night against the Taliban in Marmoul area, some 30 kilometers from Mazar-i-Sharif, a key stronghold of the Taliban militia, and the opposition forces were continuously advancing toward the city.

According to another report reaching here, the Taliban militia has launched a counter offensive in the east of Mazar-i-Sharif in a bid to drive back opposition forces.
