China, Kenya to Strengthen Academic ExchangeUniversities in China and relevant institutes of the Chinese Academy of Social Sciences are willing to strengthen relations with Jomo Kenyatta University (JKU) for academic exchanges, so as to help promote education and social science studies in both China and Kenya, a top official of the Communist Party of China (CPC) said Tuesday in Nairobi.Li Tieying, member of the Political Bureau of the CPC Central Committee and President of the Chinese Academy of Social Science (CASS), made the remarks when he visited the JKU. During his meeting with George Eshiwani, vice-chancellor of the JKU, Li said: "The main purpose of our current visit in Kenya is to promote mutual understanding between the CPC and the Kenya African National Union (KANU) and between our two countries to develop friendship and expand cooperation." He noted that the JKU, which is named after late president Jomo Kenyatta and is one of the six state universities in Kenya, has produced for the country a galaxy of talented people in various professions, especially teachers. Li, also former commissioner of China's state commission of education, emphasized that education is of vital importance for the development of a country. He expressed the hope that the art faculties of China's universities and relevant institutes under the CASS to strengthen academic exchanges with the JKU so as to deepen the relations between the two countries. The CPC delegation, at the invitation of the KANU, arrived in Kenya on Sunday for a three-day visit and will leave for South Africa on Wednesday. |
