Hong Kong Accelerates Construction of Leisure, Cultural FacilitiesThe Leisure and Cultural Services Department (LCSD) of Hong Kong has drawn up an accelerated program for the delivery of 64 capital works projects involving leisure and cultural facilities at a total estimated cost of 8.7 billion HK dollars (1.11 billion U.S. dollars). The construction of these projects is due to start within the next five years from 2002-2003 to 2006-2007 and will create 6,000 job opportunities. Lolly Chiu, deputy director of leisure and cultural services (administration), said here Tuesday that the program had been drawn up with due regard to the views of the District Councils (DCs). She noted that the program would provide a good range of public venues over a wide geographic spread to meet local needs, adding that the department would also explore the scope for greater private sector involvement in the design, construction and operation of these projects in order to expedite project delivery. These projects will include sports pitches, sitting-out areas, parks, swimming pools and libraries. |
