Combating Terrorism Is of International Concern: Spokeswoman

The issue of combating international terrorism is a concern to everyone, to all APEC members, said Zhang Qiyue, spokeswoman for the China Secretariat of APEC 2001.

The spokeswoman made the remarks on Wednesday morning at press conference when asked to confirm whether U.S. President George W. Bush is bringing a statement on combating terrorism to the informal meeting of APEC economic leaders on October 20-21.

"I don't know what President Bush is bringing to Shanghai (APEC meeting)... but I believe that at the economic leaders' informal meeting, a statement (on combating terrorism) will be issued," she said.

"There have been consultations on the content of the statement, and I believe some consensus have already been reached," she said without elaborating.

"But I think this is not only an issue for any one particular member (of APEC), but an issue of international concern," she said.
