Kenyan President Meets CPC Delegation

Kenyan President Daniel arap Moi said Tuesday in Nairobi that China is a great friend of Kenya and both Kenya and China have conducted fruitful cooperation in political, economic and military fields.

President Moi made the remarks on Tuesday morning when he met a delegation of the Communist Party of China (CPC) headed by Li Tieying, member of the Political Bureau of the CPC Central Committee.

During the meeting, Moi spoke highly of the sports facilities and roads built by Chinese companies in Kenya.

Since the two countries established diplomatic relations in 1963, Kenya has not changed its One China policy stance, the president said, adding that this stance will not change in the future.

He expressed his belief that the Chinese delegation's visit will further the good relationship between the CPC and the ruling Kenya African National Union (KANU), whose chairmanship is held by Moi.

Li first conveyed to Moi greetings from Chinese President Jiang Zemin who is also general secretary of the CPC Central Committee. He said that the CPC and KANU have enjoyed good relations since they established relations in 1986.

He spoke highly of Kenya's adherence to One China policy and thanked Kenya's support to China on many international issues.

"China has always regarded developing friendly cooperative ties with developing countries as the base of the country's foreign policy," Li said.

He added that China and Kenya have similar experience and are facing common objectives of development, therefore, bright prospects lie ahead in the development of relations between the two countries and two parties.

The CPC delegation arrived in Kenya on Sunday for a three-day visit to the eastern African country.
