Bamboo Cultural Festival to Be Held in Southwest China Province

The Third China Bamboo Cultural Festival is to be held October 20-22 in the city of Yibin in southwest China's Sichuan Province.

With the theme of "promoting bamboo culture and developing the bamboo industry", the festival will attract more than 2,000 attendees from China and abroad, who will conduct a series of discussions on how to protect the bamboo resources and develop bamboo products.

China is home to the largest number of bamboo varieties and forests in the world, and boasts a long history of bamboo and rattan use for household articles and this has developed into a unique folk culture. The headquarters of the International Bamboo and Rattan Network, an official international organization, are in China.

Sichuan has about 400,000 hectares of bamboo forests, and the total annual output value of its bamboo industry stands at two billion yuan (about 240 million U.S. dollars).
