Memorial Seminar for 1911 Revolution Held in Central China Province

An international seminar in memory of the 1911 Revolution was held Tuesday in Wuhan, capital of central China's Hubei Province and also the site of a major uprising by revolutionaries to topple the government of the Qing Dynasty (1644-1911).

Li Tieying, member of the Political Bureau of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of China (CPC) as well as president of the Chinese Academy of Social Sciences, sent a congratulations message to the seminar.

Li said the 1911 Revolution overthrew the autocratic monarchy that had reigned in China for more than 2,000 years and exerted great influence over Chinese history.

He added that the scholars have made great achievements in their studies of this epoch-making historical event.

The seminar, sponsored mainly by the Chinese Academy of Social Sciences and the Society of Chinese History, has attracted 130 scholars from home and overseas, who will discuss a series of topics concerning the revolution.
