Chinese Trade Minister Meets NZ Counterpart
Chinese Minister of Foreign Trade and Economic Cooperation
Shi Guangsheng
Tuesday called for more cooperation between China and
New Zealand
in their competition for greater market shares by taking advantage of their complementary economies.
At a meeting with Jim Sutton, New Zealand minister for trade negotiations who is here to attend this year's Asia Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) ministerial meeting, Shi said the two countries have always maintained a friendly and practical relationship and should work together to push bilateral economic and trade cooperation to a higher level.
He expressed his appreciation for the efforts made by the New Zealand government and Sutton himself to promote bilateral trade cooperation and exchanges.
Sutton said he supports China's proposal on the promotion of cooperation among APEC economies and a new round of negotiations of the
World Trade Organization
(WTO) in the spirit of consultations on an equal footing and balanced representation of the interests of all sides.
The New Zealand minister said he is looking forward to China's entry into the WTO in the near future and believes that bilateral economic and trade relations will develop further.
