APEC Meeting to Raise Confidence in World Economy: Western Reporter

The Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) economic leaders' meeting will help increase confidence in the recovery of the recession-threatened world economy, a Reuters reporter said on Tuesday.

Andrew Browne, Reuters Beijing Bureau chief, said the two-day gathering of leaders from the 21 APEC economies is a show of unity and resolve of leaders of the region to improve the regional economic situation.

"It's clear the case of free trade and removal of tariff barriers will surely have positive impact on global economic growth," he said.

Though Britain is not an APEC member and this meeting has no direct impact on British economy, it will increase people's confidence in the recovery of the sluggish world economy, he said.

He said that Reuters sent 30 newsmen from around the world to cover the meeting slated for October 20-21 in this biggest commercial city of China.

Browne is no stranger to China. He came to China almost a decade ago and opened Reuters Shanghai Office in 1992, the first western news agency office in the city.
