British Government to Boost U.K.-China Hi-tech Cooperation

British Science Minister David Sainsbury said that the British Government will actively support the high-tech industry cooperation between Britain and China.

Sainsbury is here to attend the ongoing Third China International Hi-tech Fair in Shenzhen, China's first special economic zone in south China's Guangdong Province.

Sainsbury led a delegation composed of seven British trade and culture governmental organizations as well as some multinational corporations.

Britain boasts world-leading technologies in various fields, said Sainsbury, adding that some projects concerning advanced technologies in mobile phones, optical fiber and undersea cable sectors are expected to have little difficulty finding Chinese cooperative partners.

He pointed out that China's great development potential for high technologies appeals to British businessmen. With the expansion of the Chinese capital market, the country is assimilating more international venture capital, and a high-tech board is expected to come up soon to boost the hi-tech industry.

Sainsbury also attended the inauguration ceremony of the Shenzhen office of the China-Britain Business Council (CBBC) held here Friday.

CBBC, a British governmental organization that gathers market and trade information on China, began to promote the bilateral trade cooperation since 1950s. It now has six offices in China, which have helped some 3,000 British companies enter the Chinese market.
