1,500 IT Professionals to Be Trained Under APEC Capacity Building Program

As many as 1,500 IT professionals will undergo training in the coming three years under an Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) program for promotion of human capacity.

The program is a follow-up to the Beijing Initiative of the High Level Meeting on Human Capacity Building held in Beijing in May this year, according to a press release from the Chair's Office of the Senior Officials Meeting (SOM), which was issued on Monday after the conclusion of the Informal Senior Officials Meeting (ISOM).

The program involves a tripartite partnership among governments, educational and academic circles and business communities to train IT professionals, disseminate Internet knowledge and establish the Human Capacity Building Forum.

"In the next three years, 1,500 high-level Internet professionals will be trained for APEC members free of charge on its online training platform, " said the press release.

In building a digital society in the APEC region, the SOM also endorsed the e-APEC Strategy developed by the e-APEC Task Force to create an environment for strengthening market structures and institutions, infrasctures and technology development, building human capacity and entrepreneurship.

The ISOM was called to finalize the agenda for the Ministerial Conference and the informal meeting of APEC economic leaders this week.
