Peru to Propose Declaration on Condemning Terrorism at APEC Summit
Peru will propose a declaration to condemn terrorism at the October 20-21 summit of the Asian Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) forum in Shanghai, China, Peruvian Foreign Minister Diego Garcia-Sayan said on Monday.
The foreign minister said Peru's proposal will include reinforcement to the fight against terrorism in accordance with relevant United Nations resolutions.
Peruvian President Alejandro Toledo will attend summit with focus on driving trade and investments, the foreign minister said.
Garcia-Sayan said Peru, a member of APEC, will coordinate actions with Mexico and Chile, the two other Latin American countries at the summit, to develop multilateral policies.
On the sidelines of the summit, President Alejandro Toledo will meet his counterparts from China, Mexico, Chile, the United States, Canada and Vietnam, and a meeting between Toledo and Japanese Prime Minister Junichiro Koizumi is also expected, he said.
The meeting between Peruvian President Alejandro Toledo and Chinese President Jiang Zemin is expected to concentrate on improving friendly, trade and economy ties between the two countries, the foreign minister added.
