Kuwait Revokes Al-Qaeda Spokesman's CitizenshipThe Kuwaiti cabinet on Sunday approved a decree to revoke the citizenship of Sulaiman Abu Ghaith, spokesman of the Afghanistan-based Al-Qaeda organization."In accordance with national interests and the law concerning Kuwaiti citizenship and its amendments, the council adopted a draft decree revoking the citizenship of Sulaiman Abu Ghaith," said Kuwaiti Deputy Prime Minister Mohammad Deifallah Sharar, who is also minister of state for cabinet affairs and for national assembly affairs, after the weekly cabinet session. Last Wednesday, Kuwaiti Acting Prime Minister Sheikh Sabah Al- Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah told Kuwaiti media that Sulaiman Abu Ghaith, whom Kuwait called a "traitor" and "criminal", was linked to the September 11 attacks in the U.S. which left nearly 7,000 dead. Ghaith, formerly a teacher and Muslim cleric in Kuwait, left for Afghanistan at the end of last year. He was seen in a videotape featuring Osama bin Laden, which was released by the Qatar-based Arab satellite TV Al-Jazeera a week ago. On the tape, bin Laden, blamed by Washington as the prime suspect of the September 11 terror attacks, denounced U.S. President George W. Bush as the "head of the infidels" and praised the devastating terror attacks on the U.S.. |
