HK Financial Secretary Upbeat about Cooperation with Shenzhen

Anthony Leung Kam-Chung, Hong Kong Financial Secretary, said the mainland market is vital for assuring Hong Kong's stable development when the world economy is sluggish, and thus Hong Kong wants more cooperation with Shenzhen, its neighbor on the mainland, in terms of technology and trade.

In his speech to the ongoing third China International Hi-tech Fair, Leung emphasized the establishment of a seamless platform for personnel, logistics, capital and information between the two cities. The Hong Kong government is currently developing such a platform, which will benefit both cities for further growth.

The Financial Secretary said that Shenzhen acts as a bridge between Hong Kong and the mainland while Hong Kong is a window for Shenzhen to open to the world.

He said he expect a competitive hi-tech zone to be built through both sides' efforts when capital, personnel and information from both cities are combined.

Leung is optimistic that Hong Kong will maintain the economic strength if it enhances cooperation with the mainland after its accession to the WTO.
