Seminar to Promote Economic Ties with Africa

A seminar aimed to enhance mutual understanding and economic exchanges with African nations was convened Monday in Chengdu, capital city of southwest China's Sichuan Province.

Diplomats of South Africa, Nigeria and Sudan gave outlines of the current political, economic developments and related investments and trade policies in their countries at the seminar.

A Chinese entrepreneur said that the seminar gave him a good chance to know more about Africa and he believed that the event will encourage Chinese investors to open business in that region.

Themed on "strengthening mutual understanding, making progress along with Africa," the seminar was hosted by the provincial government of Sichuan in response to the success of the China- Africa Cooperation Forum held in October last year.

By the end of 2000, Sichuan had established economic and trade relations with over 20 African nations since it started exchanges with Africa in the 1970s, involving a total investment and economic aid value of more than two billion U.S. dollars, local sources said.
