China Hosts Seminar on Education in Chemical Science

China is hosting a national seminar on higher education in chemistry and the chemical industry in north China's port city Tianjin.

Nearly 100 educators from 52 famous universities are attending the meeting to discuss higher education in the field during the country's Tenth Five-Year Plan period (2001-2005).

Sponsored by the higher education directing committee of chemistry and the chemical industry under the Ministry of Education, the four-day seminar will focus on reform, direction and development of education in the sector.

Zhou Qifeng, academician of the Chinese Academy of Sciences, said here Sunday that chemistry has become more and more important in modern people's lives and industrial production.

To face the trend and challenge of the world's development in the new century, it is a must for Chinese educators to carry out further reforms on education technology, course system, training methods and teaching materials in the field.

The higher education directing committee of chemistry and the chemical industry was the largest of the 29 academic education directing committees set up by the Ministry of Education in June this year.
