Britain Tests 3 People for Anthrax

Three people who worked in buildings in the United States where anthrax has been discovered are being tested for the potentially lethal disease in Britain, it was reported on Saturday.

The Public Health Service Laboratory said: "To date, three co- workers are known to be in the UK, two from the Florida building and one from the New York City Rockerfeller Center building and are, on a precautionary basis, being tested here."

The nationality of the three people has not been revealed.

The government is carrying out a review of Britain's ability to cope with chemical or biological attacks. The Department of Health stressed in a statement that there was "no specific, credible risk in the UK."

Four people have been exposed to anthrax in the United States since the September 11 attacks on New York and Washington, raising fears the country was the target of germ warfare. US Vice- Pesident Dick Cheney said there could be links between the cases and Osama bin Laden, whom the US has accused of masterminding the September 11 attacks on New York and Washington.
