International University President Forum Opens

Presidents of some 40 universities worldwide attended a forum organized by China's prestigious Shandong University in Jinan, capital city of eastern Shandong Province on October 13.

During the one-day forum, the participants from some ten countries and regions exchanged views on topics such as university and regional economic development, university finance, and international communication and cooperation among universities.

Mark S. Wrighton, president of Washington University in St. Louis, said that economic development depends largely on scientific research and education.

Zhan Tao, president of Shandong University, said that foreign university presidents bring to the forum useful experience which helps the development of China's higher education.

The forum is part of the activities celebrating Shandong University's 100th anniversary, which falls on October 15.
