Eastern City Awarded National First-Class Tourism ResortChangzhou in East China's Jiangsu Province was awarded the title of National First-Class Tourism City by the National Tourism Administration.The city, known for its light industry, is also home to some outstanding literary figures. An old saying goes that no other places matches Changzhou in this aspect. The 2,500-year-old history has left the city with a number of scenic spots and historical sites. Among them is China's most ancient and complete city ruins above ground: Yan City, which dates back to the Spring and Autumn Period (770-476 B.C.). Another historical site is the Heavenly Peace Temple from the Tang Dynasty (618-907). In recent years, the city strategically located between Nanjing, capital of Jiangsu, and Shanghai has developed more scenic spots such as the Tianmu Lake resort and the world-class China Dinosaur Park. Statistics show that Changzhou received 4.2 million tourist arrivals from home and abroad last year and the tourism revenue amounted to 3.81 billion yuan (US$459 million). |
