U.S. Embassy in Indonesia Prepares 4 Aircraft for Evacuation
The Unites States embassy and enterprises in Jakarta have prepared four aircraft for evacuation in case of a worsening security situation, the Bisnis Indonesia reported Saturday.
The U.S. embassy has asked Jakarta's Soekarno-Hatta airport's readiness for 24 hours to evacuate American citizens.
For security reasons, the four aircraft are parked at Singapore 's Changi airport now, the report added.
During the past week, there were daily demonstrations by hard- line Muslim organizations in front of the heavily-guarded U.S. embassy here as well as other major cities in protest over U.S. military action against Afghanistan.
Several hard-line groups also threatened to expel U.S. citizens from Indonesia.
The U.S. State Department has warned its citizens to defer travel to Indonesia and allowed all its nonessential personnel to leave the country.
