Fox to Reiterate Promise with Spain to Extradite ETA Terrorists

Mexican President Vicente Fox will arrive at Spain for a state visit on Saturday, which is aimed at promoting political and trade cooperation between the two countries, diplomatic sources here said on Friday.

Fox, who is now on his European tour, will arrive on Saturday noon in the Madrid's Baarajas international airport, and later he will go to Toledo to meet Spanish Prime Minister Jose Maria Aznar.

The two leaders are expected to discuss issues related to bilateral ties, specially the cooperation in the fight against the Basque separatist group, ETA.

Mexico has deported or extradited to Spain more than 20 suspected ETA members since 1996. Anti-terrorist cooperation between the two nations took a new drive after Aznar's visit to Mexico last July.

When Fox was the elected president, he has assured on his trip to Spain in October 2000, that his government would collaborate with Spain in its fight against terror acts, when stressing his position against terrorism in all forms.

Accompanied by a delegation of Mexican businessmen, Fox's European tour will cover Spain, the Czech Republic, Germany and France.
