Ghanaian President Announces Cabinet Reshuffle
Ghanaian President John Agyekum Kufuor announced the first major cabinet reshuffle Friday after he came into power for more than nine months, according to radio Ghana monitored here.
The radio said the reshuffle did not shake the ministers of key ministries of defense, finance and foreign affairs.
Jacob Otanka Obetsebi-Lamptey remains minister of Presidential Affairs. He originally served as chief of staff, but now this post has been taken over by Kwadwo Mpianim.
Meanwhile, the president recreated the Ministry of Information to replace the Ministry of Media Relations and moved out Elizabeth Akua Ohene to become minister at the Office of the President.
Lamptey, who successfully helped Kufuor win the election bid as campaign manager, was also appointed as minister of Information.
Joseph Henry Mensah, former minister for Parliamentary Affairs and chairman of National Development Planning Commission, was named as chairman of the government's economic team.
Papa Owusu Ankomah, who was appointed as minister of Youth and Sports only a couple of months ago, takes over from Mensah as minister for Parliamentary Affairs.
Paa Kwasi Ndumo remains as minister of Economic Planning and Regional Integration and was also appointed as new chairman of National Development Planning Commission.
The Ministry of Lands, Forestry and Mines was divided into the Ministry of Lands and Forestry and the Ministry of Mines. Kasim Kasanga was in charge of the former and Kwadwo Adjei-Darko in charge of the latter following moving from minister of Roads and Transport.
There are also changes in ministries of health, transport and housing. But no reasons were given for the cabinet reshuffle.
