Capital Market Open to Benefit Economy: Expert

China's economy will greatly benefit from a capital market accessible to foreign-funded enterprises, said an expert at a forum held in Beijing on Friday.

Gao Shangquan, head of the Research Section of the State Commission for Restructuring the Economy, said that China's entry into the World Trade Organization (WTO) demands a more internationalized capital market.

China is now working on relevant policies to enable qualified enterprises to finance foreign capital markets as well as to attract foreign investors to enter China's capital market, he said, adding that China's specific conditions including the market supervision should be taken into account when formulating the policies or regulations.

He believes foreign investment will continue to play an important role in China's economic development in the years to come.

Gao also said that indirect investment such as financing through the capital market is becoming increasingly popular among global investors. Opening China's capital market will help enlarge the market size and develop the country's economy in line with international standards.
