China, US Resume Human Rights Talks

China and the United States resumed talks on human rights between October 9-11, a diplomat from the Chinese embassy, said Thursday in Washington.

He said that during the talks, the first since the two nations suspended the talks in 1999 following the US bombing of the Chinese embassy in Yugoslavia, the two sides had broadly exchanged views over the human rights issue of common concern on the basis of equality and mutual respect in a sincere, pragmatic and constructive atmosphere, adding that both agreed to continue the dialogue and unfold cooperation on the issue.
